Jesse's 'boogars' in his ears. And now Hannah is having fever.

Little Jesse (right before Easter, go figure) hasn't been sick in a long time, but just this week he showed signs of illness. He has a fever of 102, which goes up and down between Tylenol and Motrin. Sometimes he's at 100, other times at 102.4 - 103. He is conjested and has 'gunk' or boogars coming out of his ears. And yes, they are boogar drainage, not some foreign object. When we gently tried to take a Q-tip to his ears it even came out as such, all stretchy and green.
It started out like this in his ears.....ewwww.
Then it turned into this.
It's really freaking me out but the doctor said this is how the ears are supposed to drain. It's doing it's job instead of needing ear tubes to drain the illness from him. Regardless, it still grosses me out. On that note, I'm not sure we'll have much of an Easter celebration tomorrow by taking him out of the house, however we can have an Easter celebration right here at home while I comfort him. But what can I say, he's a trooper! He does very little complaining, except sometimes, and only when he feels REALLY bad.

11 Love Thoughts:

  1. You can do this with the kids, especially if you have to stay in tomorrow, and as long as the cookies are in the oven for 2-3 hours, the effect is the same. Praying for you all!

    Notes on working with egg whites. Before you start, remove eggs from refrigerator and let them come to room temperature. Make sure that all bowls, hands, and utensils that might touch the eggs are clean and free from oils.

    * 1 cup whole pecans (preferably lightly roasted - 8-10 min at 250°F)
    * 3 egg whites
    * Pinch salt
    * 1 cup sugar
    * 1 teaspoon vinegar

    1. Preheat oven to 300°F.

    2. Place pecans in zipper baggie and beat them with a wooden spoon to break into small pieces. Set aside.

    3. Put egg whites into a standup mixer bowl. Add salt. Start the mixer speed on low, gradually increasing the speed until soft peaks start to become visible and the egg white bubbles are very small and uniform, about 2 to 3 minutes.

    4. Increase the speed to medium-high, and slowly add the sugar to the egg whites. Continue to whip the eggs and sugar for a few minutes. Then add the vinegar to the bowl. Increase speed to high and whip the egg whites until they fluff up and become glossy, and stiff peaks form when the whisk is lifted, 4-5 minutes.

    5. Using a rubber spatula, gently fold in the pecan pieces. Drop by teaspoons onto a cookie sheets that have been lined with parchment paper or Silpat.

    6. Put the cookies sheet in the 300°F oven, close the door and turn the oven OFF. Leave them in the oven overnight. In the morning they should be ready - crisp on the outside, light and airy on the inside. If they are a little marshmallowy or chewy on the inside in the morning, just let them dry out for a few more hours.

    You can also add mini chocolate chips.

    Here’s the Resurrection Story to prepare the cookies by:

    Preheat oven to 300 F. Place pecans in zipper baggie and let children beat them with the wooden spoon to break into small pieces. Explain that after Jesus was arrested he was beaten by the Roman soldiers. Read John 19:1-3.

    Let each child smell the vinegar. Put 1 tsp. vinegar into mixing bowl. Explain that when Jesus was thirsty on the cross he was given vinegar to drink. Read John 19:28-30.
    Add egg whites to vinegar. Eggs represent life. Explain that Jesus gave His life to give us life. Read John 10:10-11.
    Sprinkle a little salt into each child's hand. Let them taste it and brush the rest into the bowl. Explain that this represents the salty tears shed by Jesus' followers, and the bitterness of our own sin. Read Luke 23:27.

    So far the ingredients are not very appetizing. Add sugar. Explain that the sweetest part of the story is that Jesus died because He loves us. He wants us to know and belong to Him. Read Ps. 34:8 and John 3:16.

    Beat with a mixer on high speed for 12 to 15 minutes until stiff peaks are formed. Explain that the color white represents the purity in God's eyes of those whose sins have been cleansed by Jesus. Read Isa.1:18 and John 3:1-3.

    Fold in broken nuts. Drop by teaspoons onto wax paper covered cookie sheet. Explain that each mound represents the rocky tomb where Jesus' body was laid. Read Matt. 27:57-60.

    Put the cookie sheet in the oven, close the door and turn the oven OFF.
    Give each child a piece of tape and seal the oven door. Explain that Jesus' tomb was sealed. Read Matt. 27:65-66.

    GO TO BED! Explain that they may feel sad to leave the cookies in the oven overnight. Jesus' followers were in despair when the tomb was sealed. Read John 16:20 and 22.

    On Easter morning, open the oven and give everyone a cookie. Notice the cracked surface and take a bite. The cookies are hollow! On the first Easter Jesus' followers were amazed to find the tomb open and empty. Read Matt.28:1-9. HE HAS RISEN!

  2. You're so wonderful Jeanette! Thanks for all your love! You're such a blessing. I'm not a very good cook but I will try to do the cookie ingredients you suggest. I just fear that now I am coming down with something by being around both my kids all day and wanting me to hold them. You're such a great woman of God.

  3. The doctor didn't give you anitboitics or something to put in his ears? I thought the green was an indication of infection.

    Will say a prayer for healing. :)

  4. Hey Sarah,
    Lifting prayers for little Jesse.
    As you know I've just been through something similar, with my left ear blocked for three weeks due to a cold and allergies.

    Do you have FEZZ salt water nose sprays in the USA? (Available over the counter at chemists.) Being only salt water, you can use it as much as you want. I sprayed my nostrils several times a day, then you wait a minute (or even a few minutes) and then the nose may drip or need blowing. The salt water breaks down the muscus/boogies so that they can flow out. (And if the green stuff in his ears has come out past the eardrums, I'm guessing if you spray his years with salt water spray that it will break them down too?

    I also had to take an cortizone nose spray (but it is dangerous so you can't use longer than the doctor says), and on a previous occasion when I had infected sinuses, took antibiotics as well.

    And good on you for celebrating Easter at home. My family and I did the same on Friday.

    God bless
    Peter

  5. I was surprised too Edie!

    Actually the Dr. just said to give normal OTC meds like Tylenol and Motrin for the fever. He said that it was a very good sign that Jesse's ears are draining like this. He said a lot of kids/babies that have ear infections end up needing some type of tubes in their ears because they aren't doing their job of clearing the infection on it's own, so he said it was very rare to see his body acting the way it should.

    However, if his fever doesn't break or the 'gunk' doesn't decrease than I plan on taking him back to the Dr. We had to see the 'on call' Dr. instead of our normal Dr. since she wasn't in. So if things don't get better I'll take Jesse in on Monday and hopefully his reg Dr. will be available.

    Thanks for the prayers Edie. It means so much! I just feel so badly that they are sick on Easter Sunday. But hey, things happen like this ya know? It's all unpredictable. It's just unfortunate that they haven't been sick for a long while and tomorrow we'll have to miss the celebration of Christ. But Hannah MAY be able to go; she doesn't have ear drainage and her fever is breaking, so when my husband's sister called to see how the kids are and when I mentioned that Hannah is so much better; she offered to take her to church and then egg hunting. But little Jesse will just have to miss out this year. There's always next year though...(sorry my response was so long).

  6. Thanks Peter. I've never hear of FEZZ before. I'll ask either the pharmacist or Dr. if I should use that on him.

    It's 12:45 AM right now and I just check on both the kids. Hannah's fever is at 97.0 (odd), and little Jesse's is at 101, but his ears seemed to have already drained a lot. I changed his pillow case...it doesn't look as bad as the photo's I put up anymore. But I'll still keep him home tomorrow. I'm hesitant on letting Hannah go with my husbands sister tomorrow because I don't want her running around and getting sick again, but her illness was so minor compared to little Jesse's. I'm hoping I'm making the right decision on letter her go; I'll just dress her warm. But I'm definately going to keep little Jesse home; no question there.

  7. Hi Sarah,
    Sorry, it is actually spelt FESS.

    It is a Nasal Spray, a non medicated isotonic saline solution.

    It is water with 7.040mg/mL sodium chloride.

    It will be in the USA, but may not be called FESS.

    Hope this helps.

    God bless :)

  9. Hi Sarah,

    I just received your comment. I wanted to pop over to say yes I'm familiar with the four women you mentioned. I have love and apprecation for Joyce Meyer for many many years now and I also respect Beth Moore a great deal.

    I will continue to pray for your precious kids. Bless you and enjoy your evening and time with your family in the Lord.

  10. Hi Sarah, yep we're both online together. Just received your followup comment.

    I too would love to become friends. I so agree with you on the "follow" thing. Sounds cultish if you ask me. If you notice on mine it says, "Welcome followers of Jesus". Truth is I don't want anyone following me only JESUS. So we are so in one accord about that. I prefer the word, "readers and friends". So thank you for being a reader and friend. I'm a reader and friend to you too :)

    You can also always reach me via email lisashawcares@cfl.rr.com

    Bless you.

  11. I'm so sorry your kiddies are sick. I had tubes in my ears twice as a preschooler. I remember feeling like everyone was yelling at me after surgery. I could finally HEAR!
