What does my new baby "Mr. Nikon D90" have to do with God???

And now without further ado I present to you our son, Mr. Nikon D SLR D90! I had been longing for one for so long but was trying to wait to see if the price ever was finally going to go down. Well guess what? This Sunday is Mother's Day and Best Buy was having a sale AND on top of that they matched the price of another sale from Wolf Camera which was also having a Mother's Day Sale. So what does my husband do? He buys it for me. It's a combination of a Mother's Day gift and our upcoming anniversary gift. Bless his heart! He's too good to me! In this grouping everything is Nikon. I have the Nikon 'body', 1 lithium rechargeable battery with charger, two great lens both with vibration reduction (for shaky hands like mine), the software CD, and cables. Both lens sit in a soft drawstring velvety pouch. (To the left of the picture). The manager in the camera department even threw in the Nikon Accessory Kit which comes with the Nikon Camera Case/bag to hold everything in securely, ANOTHER Nikon LI-ION (lithium) rechargeable battery, and a Nikon school guide to photography. He said he did this because we were buying the 4 year warranty which he looked down at "Mr. Happy" and said 'Just so you know the warranty also covers accidental damage as well.' He was a great man and later learned that he was also a Christian. See how great God works in mysterious ways? Mother's Day Sale, Lower price with price match, and God matched us up with just the right person who handled our awesome transaction. What's great about this camera is so many things. It has a shutter speed of 4.5 frames per second just in time for Hannah's cheer leading to begin and both the kids swim lessons starting June 1st. I can literally hold the shutter button down and you just hear click, click, click, click, click frame after frame non stop up to 100 pictures with no lag time. The shutter speed is intense (IMO). That means for birthday's or Christmas, or other special occasion I don't have to do a lot of 'do overs' and retakes. I can just snap away and I'm bound to have several awesome photo's. What's more is that you can do a lot of editing just within the camera itself, red-eye reduction, adding frames, titles, etc. And it has a 3" screen on the back if you want to take photo's in Live View, although the sales man warned us that it would use up more battery. It's been rated mostly 5 out of 5 stars from the public reviews but recently I saw one that had a 4 1/2 rating. Good enough for me! We could have gotten our Nikon a lot cheaper online at eBay or through some Amazon site, but none of them were authorized dealers and they seemed 'shady' about any warranty. They had the camera but with different brand name lens and other 'bundle packages' that didn't seem authentic. Trust me we looked everywhere; online, in stores, even Walmart carries this camera, but they aren't an authorized dealer who would honor the same policy and back up the warranty from the only 3 stores that are authorized dealers. However you can go to the Walmart site and read all the specs of this awesome new family member of ours! Even at Walmart prices we still got a better deal. My husband paid about (usually I don't agree in sharing something as personal as our finances, but this was too good not share) under $16oo (which is a steal), which by the way included the 4 year warranty. The manager even took off the sales tax by making adjustments here and there. Now I know that sounds like a crud of cash (we don't use credit), but my husband had been blessed recently and he wanted to use some of this on me for Mother's Day. Later I'll need to buy one of the Nikon external flashes, though my Nikon does have a built in one that pops up when needed and later we want to buy the famous 'Photo Shop' for editing images. We get that dirt cheap too because Jesse's mom is a principle at a school (she got her second Masters degree about 2 years ago) so because of her being a teacher she can get it for a fraction of the price and we would just pay her back. Now, for some of you who wonder why I have the Thomas Kinkade cross in the photo; I'll tell you. For years I didn't know what I wanted to do, what my passion was, or if I even had any gift to offer Jesus or any other human soul, that's how low my confidence was. But that all changed when I asked Jesus in my heart (for the 6Th time because I just didn't feel like He heard me or just wouldn't take me...I dunno why I kept asking for His salvation so many times.). Later, when somehow a camera was placed in my hands, I instantly loved it. This is when I knew that God gave me a passion for staging and capturing images just right; and with love in every click. That, my friend, is the answer to the to question 'What does my new baby "Mr. Nikon D90" have to do with God???' I give God the glory for showing me what my hearts joy because for so long I didn't know. Just in the same way Edie, who is a Christian blog/web designer who did my site for me; she too shares how she had to figure out how God 'wired' her for her gifts. So there you have it, that is why the cross is next to the Nikon image; because it was Him who revealed to me my true passion while on this earth. I still have a lot of reading up on the manual, which is why you see it a little open because that is what I have be doing a lot; studying it. This camera is way to high-tech for me so I want to make sure I know all the ends and outs of it precisely. Once He reveals His God given talent to you than He will guide that God given gift the whole way home.

So how 'bout you? What gift do you feel or know God blessed you with? Or are you working on figuring this out like I was for awhile, which is okay too.

Sarah

34 Love Thoughts:

  1. It's great when you finally know the gift that God as given you.

I always wanted to be an actress on Broadway. For years I took dance lessons and love the stage, no stage fright here. Well, I don't act on Broadway but I have a much better job. I do monologues of women from the Bible which I perform at different churches along with sharing my story (God's Story). I'm also part of the drama team at our church.

Nice looking camera, my husband is professional photographer and love taking pics.

    love and hugs~Tammy

  4. Sarah,

Your blog looks amazing. I hope you stay with this for a while! It is very welcoming and peaceful!

Congrats on your new camera. I know how much you will love it! Have fun capturing your precious children with it!

    Happy Mother's Day and Anniversary!

I wanted to ask if you can teach me how to make the nav bar across the top? I really would like that on my homeschool blog but the instructions I keep finding have me a bit confused :(

Wishing you a very blessed day and thanking God you have found your way walking with Him so beautifully!

  5. I'm passionate about music (singing) and writing.

I could easily see where photography could become a passion- but I hate reading those little books you were referring to. My son is a professional photographer and it is his passion. I love his photos and always wish I could do it as well. Maybe someday....

    Congratulations on your new baby!

  6. Hi Sarah,

OH I love your new baby! What a sweet husband too! A couple of years ago I upgraded from the store bought disposable cameras to a fine digital. I love taking pictures and photography just as you do. I have a strong passion for that as well writing. If we were around each other we both would be flashing in sync I'm sure. Whenever I go anywhere my camera is always taken along with me. Isn't funny? We both have a passion that is the same? God knows doesn't He?

I just love your site and you are such a sweet lovable person. I can say that with all honesty because you show it so easily here.

I'll be back again my sweet friend.

    Hugs,
    Alleluiabelle

  8. Sarah,

What a blessing that God has blessed you with. I am so happy for you.

Thanks again for the "Golden Heart Award" I am still in awe of your considering me for this.

I posted the picture of the award on my blog and I think I have it figured out how to pass it along as you did. If I get stuck along the way, I will give you a "Help Sarah" ring back here. :)

Thanks again! I feel very honored!

  9. Congratulations and I know you'll have a Happy Mother's Day with the camera. What a blessing. Debra at Sparrowgrass takes a lot of pictures outdoors and has a true gift in getting the sites she does. I look forward to seeing some of yours.

Thanks for your suggestions. So far this morning I've not had any problems except the computer keeps coming up in the beginning with a blue screen. It doesn't stay very long but says it has recovered the system from a very serious error and then reboots. There's some cookies in the Temporary Internet folder of cookies that will not let me delete them. Some of them are suspicious looking but I've ran two different virus programs and come up with nothing bad just some advertising cookies which I delete.

I will go into Safe Mode and see what it says. My computer was built for me by a man who is very reliable. I could take it to him but I'm afraid he'll tell me I have to reformat my hard disk. I've had to do that so many times and I'm trying to avoid doing that. God knows exactly where the problem is and I'm just asking Him to show me what it is. Sounds silly I know but several times I've lost something and I pray that same prayer and it won't be long until I find what I'm looking for. Isn't is great that we serve a God who cares about the "trifling little things in our lives".

Thanks again for the award. I will put it on my blog soon. I feel so blessed to have you as a friend. You are very special.
    From my heart to yours,
    AliceE.

  10. Congratulations on your gift and use it well sister.

Happy Mother's Day to you and I pray blessings over your family in Jesus Name.

As for the Gift God has given to me? Too many to count: LIFE/Salvation through Jesus/Hubby/Children/Grandchildren/Ministry/friends in person and online and most of all HIS DIVINE PRESENCE EACH AND EVERY DAY. WOW! Those are great gifts.

    Bless ya!

  11. Tammy-That's cool. I used to want to be an actress too, then a police woman, and later a social worker for abused children. Well I have never done any of those, but have served in God's Army, which I am very proud to be part of.

What kind of Camea does you hubby have? Does he have a website?

  12. Laurie - that is so nice to say your gift is to be with your husband. My husband works shift work and is gone a lot, so I can relate to looking forward to that time. Thanks for visiting my site. I love meeting and making new friends.

  13. Cheri - Oh it'll take me some time before I learn how to take some high quality pics! And I'm not exacty a quick learner. Nor do I want to use this high end camera as just a 'point and shoot', but I really do want to learn all the functions of how to use it and take advantage of everything it does. Thanks for your comment though. I'm sure I'll have some pics to show, in say, about a year or so....LOL....no maybe a month or two.

  14. Jill - thanks for the awesome compliment on my site; however I can't take credit for it. The awesome Christian woman, Edie, who I mentioned on this post did everything it all. Her site is like your design site; just asking for whatever the Lord places on one's heart to give. Oh, did you get my donation to your adoption site? I just did it today but it's under my husbands name 'Jesse'.(I went through our pay-pal account.) However I don't want anything from you; you've been a great friend, blessing and inspiriration to me just as it. I agree with your reason and support for adoption because sooner or later we hope to adopt as well, but more down the road after we pray and feel called by God.
    Here is my confirmation:

jesse, your donation is now complete
    Confirmation number:
    4H720308J0321791F

Homeschool blog??? When did this happen or did I just overlook this? I'd love to see it. Personally I wasn't able to do the navigation bars either. I tried, I truly gave it my all but it wouldn't work. :( I can offer you a free blogspot site that teaches people to do such things or you can use the lady who did my custom site...I'm sure for just a navagation bar I would assume the donations to her wouldn't be much. However if you want to do it for free Jeannette is the place to go and is incredible: Her site is called Easy Custom Blogs and here is her link for creating tabs, navigation bars.

She loves the Lord with all her heart and is just wonderful!

  23. Wow, that's a great Mother's day gift, and it's very well deserved. You must post some more pictures for us to see!

I'm not a mother, so for now I think a great gift would be knowing what to get for my mom and my sister (she's a mother).

Take care Jesse, Sarah, and kiddies!

  24. Sherri,

I love music too and I so wish I had this gift and passion but honestly I am horrible when it comes to holding a note! I often just mouth the songs during church so I don't pierce anyone's ears!
LOL! That's cool that this is your joy! Thanks for the congrats on my blessed gift!:D

  25. Alleluiabelle -

  26. Puuuulease Mimi,

I am still studying the manual; how to do this or that or make something appear different or unusual. I'll probably ask you for a lot of help since you have the same camera. (That is if you don't mind.)

But I'm determined to get some great photos with this camera eventually, right now I'm just reading the manual and taking practice shots, which aren't anything great for now; my couch, the living room, the backyard.....
    lol.

Air Hugs back to you Mimi!
    Your friend,
    Sarah

Very funny Peter P. But hey, I'll ask! No harm in that right? I still don't know all the 'ends' and 'outs' of this thing but I played around with it today and was pleased. I got some great action shots of the kids in the backyard in their blow up pool with this Nikon. I'm working on posting them up now....
